It's Not In Vain
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:58
I recently purchased a used car for my wife. Needless to say, after a Newfoundland winter, it needed a good cleaning, inside and out. My father graciously offered to help and we spent two hours washing, dusting and vacuuming the car. After we finished, we admired our handiwork, as did my wife when she arrived home from work. Unfortunately, the next day we had snow flurries and the salt got all over the newly washed car. I said to myself, "That was a waste of time." Washing a vehicle in NL is often in vain, it doesn’t last. How different that is when compared to doing a work for the Lord. We serve a risen Saviour; what we believe, the time we spend practising our faith and serving the Lord from day to day is nothing but time well-spent, it's not in vain. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." 1 Corinthians 15:58.
You see, Jesus is alive, ruling and reigning, He’s taking notice of what we do here on this earth. He is preparing a heavenly home for all of us and we need to be building up heavenly rewards every day. It is easy for us to lose our heavenly focus and concentrate the majority of our time and effort on the cares of this world, but Solomon reminds us that all of this is vanity. How much better to give our time and energy to something that will never fade away, that will last forever, that is reserved in heaven for you.
