Clean Indeed
“... dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God”
2 Corinthians 7:1
I had some new carpet installed not long ago and I had to remove the old carpet. What a surprise I got when I pulled up the old carpet, there was dirt, stains, even some dark, mouldy looking substance underneath. We had to use bleach and a special sealer paint to cover up some stains.
Sometimes it’s absolutely amazing what you discover when you pull back the top layer of something. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s terribly bad. It makes me think about the human race. We all do our best to be well kempt, attractive and congenial to those we interact with on a regular basis. But when you really get to know a person there may be a hidden underbelly exposed that is not nearly so nice. Jeremiah 17:9 says, "The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked, who can know it?"
What are you like underneath? Do problems expose fleshly reactions or a spiritual response? The Bible says, "Do all things without murmurings and disputings." (Philippians 2:14) Sometimes we just try to cover up a sin instead of dealing with it. God can help in this area. Jesus Christ can cleanse you from all sin, when He cleans up all things are new. 2 Corinthians 5:17.
