I Surrender

Being a weakling as a kid, I remember, more than once, being on the ground with someone on top of me. He would put his knees on my biceps and hold my forearms down with his hands. (Notice the pronoun “he”, I wasn’t such a wimp that girls joined in this torture.) I had little tolerance for pain, and would usually cry, “I surrender”, or “I give up” without putting up much of a struggle.

The famous Prime Minister of Britain, Winston Churchill, gave us a great quote to consider, “Never, never, never quit.” “Never give in.” Many people are quick to surrender when life throws difficulty their way. This should not be the case for the victorious Christian. We have been exhorted in the Word of God not to surrender. “And let us not be weary in well-doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Galatians 6:9 encourages us that we should not lose heart and surrender, even if things look hopeless.

The Psalmist instructs us as follows: “...hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.” Psalm 42:5. We read in 1 Corinthians 15:57-58, “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

We need to start 2010 with the mindset that we are on the victory side, and the only surrendering we should be doing is to the Lord and to His divine will.
